That's the book that caused my mother to become a JW.
I think I'll read it, might be interesting to show her all the ways "the truth" has changed since then...
Thanks for all the good work with the pdfs.

a critical mass of exjws is gradually being reached.
perhaps eventually, there might be several in each town.. inevitably, faithful witnesses will call on these ones, unsuspecting of who they are, what they believe and such prepared demonstration of "how to place the magazines" will not go down well.. reading the many experiences here, for the most part, many exjws try to plant a seed in the mind of the witnesses.. this seed may be discussed with other members of the car group.
the conversation may go nowhere, but a seed has been planted and someone or something will keep on making it grow.. thus spread the seeds of doubt and discontent.. it's the converted preaching to the unconverted who in turn witness to the converted.. the society have a real mess on their hands - exjws are no longer an unknown quantity, a fringe element.
2 or 3 million extremely loyal followers are much better than 7 million half hearted ones.
Not in a religion that is so besotted with numbers and views that as evidence of God's blessing. Half of the numbers leaving would be a major blow.
Besides, they really don't seem to care whether people are genuine as long as their ass is in a chair 3 (soon to be 2) times a week and they put a number on a piece of paper at the end of each month.
sooo... around 6 months ago (seems like a lifetime ago) i filled in the nice little form on the wtb website saying i was interested in a bible study... after this i went to a kingdom hall (cue ominous music) and ended up here.
anyway, they have now responded to my online enquiry of 6 months ago and have sent a note to my house saying they'll be there on thursday... how do i get out of this???
if i'm not home will they just go away??
Why don't you tell them about a couple of the things you've learned on here? You'd never know, they might get curious and look stuff up.
so i logged into jwd today and saw that i'm on my 3-year anniversary of membership.
it's been a big 3 years--the biggest three years of my life.
here's a few reflections i'd like to share with you: .
Congrats! An anniversary worth celebrating!!
i have just posted a new article on methods of false reasoning in the watchtower at http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/rhetorical-fallacy.htm.
this discusses rhetorical fallacy, methods such as red herrings, straw man arguments, generalisations etc.. i would welcome any comments or proof reading.
i would particularly like to know of any additional examples that i may have missed.. .
That's a really great page on an excellent website. It's so good to be able to see it all laid out so clearly and, dare I say, logically.
Well done!
i found these articles intriguing.
i'll let them speak for themselves.
the first is from the january 2009 wt; kool-aid edition; second from the october 2008 km, the last is a new tract.. oh, and i apologize for the poor lighting.
They're just wanting to move old stock (and presumably get some contributions for them as they're of the expensive hard-back variety). Cha-ching!
Imagine asking money for discoloured books!
Most halls have a shelf full of these out-of-date books sitting there gathering dust. Such a shame...
so i keep hearing that the bs arrangment hasn't changed anything, that's bulls***.
if the new night is going to be the same amount of time as it currently is, then obviously parts of the meeting have to be shortened or taken out ( which they have done ) why can't they just admit to the fact that they are getting rid of 1 of the 5 meetings a week.
stop dancing around the issue.
C'mon now. Do u really think they're gonna fess up and tell people the truth? Honesty is hardly their highest ranking quality, now is it?!
As long as people keeping accepting the crap, they'll keep dishing it out. I mean, have you read this week's WT study? What the heck bread has to do with dignity I'll never know and yet all the r&f will talk about their wonderful regular spiritual food. Open wide!
frequently, we look for simple, powerful arguments to disprove watchtower nonsense.
perhaps we have missed the simplest one of all:.
prayer!.
My JW mother feels that her prayer was answered when the Witnesses called to her when I was a tot. But when I first started uncovering things about a year ago, I prayed like mad for guidance in what to do and all the time felt like I was being led away from, not toward, the Witnesses. So there's no pattern or logic there at all.
in words it is one thing.
in practice it is quite different.. so in what ways has the wts made the load "lighter"?.
well the new book study arrangement is the newest one but there have been so many more.
They have seriously shortened the assemblies/conventions. Used to be 7 days long and from 8am to 9pm or something crazy like that (though thankfully before my time!). I think I remember having to do a half-day on the Thursday of the district convention weekend. Anyone else remember this or am I cracking up?!

Lady Lee:
the DONATION simplification - I still don't get how "donating" when you pick them up and then "donating" anything you get from the householders is a form of DONATION - maybe you can help me understand how this is makes a JW's life easier
My dad used to be an MS prior to the donation arrangement being implemented. I remember him spending hours at the hall before each audit was due, trying to get all the numbers totted up and balanced. Not easy at all especially when the pioneers could by for half-price whilst r&f pubs had to pay the WTS Recommended Retail Price. I know he was glad when that changed.
